Restore to a previous version of iOS (For iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch)

Do you feel lately that with the latest iOS 7 update your old faithful iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch has become slow and sluggish. Or may be for some reason you want to switch back to a previous version of iOS, If yes, hang on the solution is here...

Note: This guide involves manually updating the core iOS Firmware and may render your device useless or cause malfunction if done incorrectly or any reason for that matter. Proceed only at your own risk and the author or this site will not be liable for any damage or loss whatsoever it may cause.


Download# the appropriate version of iOS (IPSW) file from
http://ipswdownloader.com/

Make sure to choose the correct device and correct version or else you might have your device damaged. Do not proceed unless you are sure of the device and the version.

Back up your data at this point using iTunes as you will loose your data beyond this point.

  • Open iTunes and connect your apple device
  • Select the device in iTunes
  • On a Mac, hold down the “Option” key and then click on “Restore”
  • On a Windows PC, hold down “SHIFT” key and then click on “Restore”
  • Select the IPSW file you downloaded and click “Choose”
  • Let the iOS device update as usual
As the device reboots you will have your apple device loaded with your selected version of iOS.
